UNIVERSITY OF CANBERRA 

GROUND FLOOR, BUILDING B. TAFE SOUTH BANK CAMPUS

 

PROJECT: Commercial refurbishment & fit-out

CLIENT:   Higher Education Facility - The University of Canberra

EXISTING BASE BUILDING: Owned by Tafe Queensland 

TIMEFRAME:12 Weeks

BUDGET: $400,000

OBJECTIVE

To create a  hub that is dynamic to catch the engagement of Tafe students to enrol into the University of Canberra. There will be two areas that will be designed: 

RETAIL ZONE

This will be a small space predominantly selling art and design books alongside smaller items such as architectural drafting kits, pens, mugs, caps and shirts. This area will also have a transitional zone of self-service and a break zone for a potential student to interact with staff members to enrol in future courses.

 

OFFICE ZONE

This area will have ergonomic office desks, a productive and engaging workspace a kitchen and an informal social area to create a healthy workplace culture and environment. There will be additional desks for travelling employees to act as hotspots zones as well as smart storage solutions.


SCOPE OF WORKS

- Space planning, layout, and overall design to meet those requirements.

- Selection and documentation of colours, materials, finishes and hard surfaces as well as furniture, decoration, accessories, soft furnishings throughout.

- Construction drawing documentation package.

EXISTING SITE 

The existing site is used as a student lounge, study area and is used for social settings in between breaks of classes. There is a large kitchen that is used for meals brought in by students. Currently, the area is dark dull uninviting and not pleasant to rest whilst on a break. The prosed tenancy fit-out is located on the Tafe Southbank campus. It is a south-west facing building that is two stories. It has adjoining 02 buildings surrounding it. 

CLIENT DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

RETAIL 

- Bookcase: stand-alone or integrated.

- Storage FOH and BOH

- Hanging clothes

- POS counter to have: phone, computer and EFT system

- Self Service area

- Notice board and screen

 

OFFICE 

- A total of 8 workstations

- Office equipment

- Kitchen area

- Storage for items such as filing/archiving 

- Dynamic/ interactive space

- Card access

SCHEMATIC CONCEPTS & DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

The client has requested two different options in layout, colours and overall design aesthetic. These were the two options shown to the client.

FINAL DESIGN SELECTION

It was difficult for my educator to select which floorplan and layout to select for the project ultimately, they believed that Creative Curves best suited the client marketing and branding strategy. This is the final documentation submitted for my last assessment for the diploma.

DRAWING PACKAGE

The complete drawing package was completed with REVIT 2021.

RENDERS

Final renders were completed with REVIT 2021 and edited in Photoshop.
