Small Business Owner

81 Mina Parade, Alderley

I wanted to take a sabbatical after working within the industry - during this time an opportunity to acquire a small local business presented itself, I wanted to seize this challenge of running and operating a Café. I wanted to expand my skills in two areas:

  • Learning leadership skills as well as delegating tasks to junior staff members.  I thrive in positive and well-integrated teams, and I want to be able to grow and build that skill set further.

  • Strategic planning in growing a business. When I purchased the café it was struggling with net negative profit.  Under new management The Tiller Café’s direction, well–defined business plan we will be to be able to sell with a profit. By developing core skills in time, resources, and financial management as well as strong negotiation skills with suppliers and customers alike.

Another factor in purchasing the business is the following:

  • Flexibility with personal life, as I wanted to spend more time with my daughter who at the time had not commenced school.

  • I am also a coffee connoisseur most drawings, reading, and family gatherings occur at a café, I enjoy looking at the aesthetics, interior, and lighting design along with the functionality of spaces. I have gained knowledge of how coffee is ethically traded, roasted, supplied, and sold.
